OSHA 30 CLASS STARTS DEC. 3

Our next OSHA 30 Certification Class will be starting on December 3.  If you do not yet have this certification, you should consider taking this class. Here is the description:
  • This is a 30-hour safety awareness class.  You will receive the OSHA-30 certification card upon successful completion of the class.  More and more job specifications are requiring that at least one person per crew on the job site carry this certification. Put yourself in a good situation and get this card!

PRO-10 CERTIFICATION CLASS - Starts November 29

There is a PRO-10 Certification classes scheduled to start  on Thursday, November 29:
  • This is a 12-hour professional skills training class that goes beyond technical training.  A few of the core topics covered are: Professionalism, Safety, Communication, Mutual Respect and Changing Perceptions.  You will receive the PRO-10 certification card upon successful completion of this class.  Some metro area job sites will soon be requiring you to have this card in order to work on that site, just like the requirement for an OSHA-30 card.  All metro area apprentices currently in school are receiving this training and getting their cards.  Don't limit your options for work, we highly recommend that you take this class now!

Power Limited Technician Upgrade Class - STARTS APRIL 15

A Power Limited Technician Upgrade Class will be held on Monday and Wednesday evenings, April 15 - 24, 2013. If you hold the Minnesota Power Limited Technician License, you are required to earn 16-hours of continued education for renewal of the license. Don't let your license lapse, it costs more money to renew if you do! This 16-hour class will give you the needed hours of upgrade training to maintain your license.

Load Calculation & Duct Design Class - STARTS DEC. 11

This 16-hour class will focus on the proper method to calculate heat loss for a residential home using a Manual J workbook and spreadsheet. Information from the spreadsheet will be used to calculate the heat loss for each room, and the entire house. Duct design will incorporate information from the heat loss spreadsheet to design a duct system to distribute the correct amount of air to each room to satisfy the load. This class qualifies for NATE Continuing Education Hours.

AutoCAD Class starts Monday, November 5

AutoCAD is a Computer Aided Design program used to create drawings. This 48-hour class is designed to teach you the basics of creating and working with CAD drawings. You will learn how to draw on the computer and plot out the finished drawing on a plotter. This is an excellent preparatory class for someone interested in doing detailing and planning work. Good detailers are in demand!

Introduction to AutoCAD Class starts on Monday, November 5, 4:30 to 8:30 p.m.

BENCHMARK CERTIFICATION - DRAFT

This class may be starting soon:
  • In this 40-hours class the student will learn how to use the iTi's Benchmark software to create 3D models in AutoCAD. These models are saved to a company database creating a Building Information Modeling (BIM) model. The AutoCAD drawing is downloaded and used for fabrication of the sheet metal parts. Proficiency in AutoCAD is a must for this class.

  • This 72-hour class is designed to introduce the basics of TAB work to an individual, with lots of hands on applications. You will learn how to set up and use flow hoods, manometers, and many other testing instruments used daily by TAB technicians. In addition, you will learn how to test and balance various types of mechanical equipment along with their related duct systems. This is an excellent class for people who want to learn how to do TAB work, as well as for those people currently doing it.

SERVICING ENVIRIONMENTAL SYSTEMS I CLASS STARTS OCTOBER 16!

SERVICING ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEMS I (SES I) STARTS OCTOBER 16!
  • SES I will focus on the core knowledge required for servicing HVAC systems. We'll cover the basics of refrigeration systems, systems, design, pressure/temperature relationships, electricity fundamentals, and controls. This 88-hour class or the equivalent in experience is a prerequisite for SES II.

RIGGING AND SIGNAL PERSON CLASS

We will be offering another Rigging and Signal Person Class on Tuesday, July 31, from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m.  Here is the class description:
  • OSHA now requires that any person involved with the rigging and/or signaling of cranes be a Qualified Rigger or Qualified Signal Person.  Class length will be four hours which includes an exam on each qualification. Passing the exams ensures that you have the qualifications required to be a Qualified Rigger or Qualified Signal Person.

BIM ACADEMY BENCHMARK DRAFT CLASS - July 9-12

More and more employers and projects require expertise in Building Information Modeling (BIM). Certification utilizing the ITI's Benchmark BIM training software opens the door to new employment opportunities and lets you hit the ground running, no matter which BIM program the contractor is using.

MSHA CERTIFICATION CLASS STARTS JUNE 6!

We have scheduled a 24-hour MINE SAFETY & HEALTH ADMINISTRATION (MSHA) CLASS that will start on June 6. You will receive the MSHA-24 certification card upon successful completion of this class.  An MSHA card is required for a lot of project sites up on the Iron Range as well as for work in cement plants everywhere. Increase your options for work and get this card! NOTE: Unlike an OSHA card, the MSHA card requires eight hours of refresher training every year in order to maintain it.

FIRE LIFE SAFETY LEVEL TWO CLASS

We will soon be scheduling a 16-hour (four evenings) FIRE LIFE SAFETY LEVEL TWO CLASS to be held in April.  Successful completion of this class and the included exam will certify you as a National Energy Management Institute (NEMI) Fire Life Safety Systems Level Two Technician. This class is intended for TAB professionals who are proficient in controls, smoke management systems and stairway pressurization. 

In order to qualify to sit for the exam, you must have the FLS Level One Technician certification.

REFRIGERANT HANDLING - CFC CERTIFICATION CLASS

We have scheduled a Refrigerant Handling - CFC Certification Class for the evenings of April 9, 11, & 16. This is a 12-hour class with the test for certification on the last night. It is a difficult test and should not be taken without the course instruction first. This is not a "hands on" class, the material covered is all in the classroom. If you pass the test, you will hold the card that is the Environmental Protection Agency's certification to purchase and handle refrigerants as outlined in Section 608 of the Clean Air Act. The fine for improperly handling refrigerants can be up to $10,000. Since we need to order tests for this class we ask that you sign up no later than Friday, March 30.

This 40-hour class will provide you with some much needed basic skills in this aspect of our trade. There is a tremendous amount of power plant, refinery, and other industrial type work that is in the works within Local 10 and also nationwide. These types of projects typically require a lot of lagging fabrication and installation.

These types of projects typically require a lot of lagging fabrication and installation.

LEED PROFESSIONAL ACCREDITATION CLASS

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), developed and administered by the U.S. Green Building Council, is the most widely recognized and respected third party certification program for "Green" buildings. This 24-hour class is an introduction to some of the specifics of sustainability and building Green, the LEED rating system, and how to start the process to become a LEED Green Associate and on to the Accredited Professional status if desired. STAINLESS STEEL WELDING & FINISHING CLASS - starts February 9!

This 56-hour STAINLESS STEEL WELDING & FINISHING CLASS is designed to teach you some basic skills in TIG welding and grinding and finishing stainless steel to food grade (NSF) standards. Course content will include purge welding, warpage control, bend allowances, grinding and finishing, knowledge of tools and abrasives, common practices for fab and install, etc. Two or three stainless steel projects are fabricated in this class. Time will be made available within this class for individuals who wish to learn how to weld aluminum or other metals.  This class is limited to 10 students

PLASMA TABLE OPERATION CLASS - Starts January 31

PLASMA TABLE OPERATIONS CLASS is designed to teach you how to run a plasma table. You will learn how to draw a custom part on a computer, load it into the plasma table and cut it. You will then learn to enter some stock HVAC type fittings and cut and label them. Some time will be spent learning how to read labels for forming as well so you learn all aspects of the table use, from data entry to forming up.
