In 2024 we will be conducting Open Weld on two Wednesdays each month, with the following structure:

1.    Certification Sessions: The last Wednesday of every month will be dedicated to certification sessions.

2.    Practice Days: The Wednesday preceding the certification session will serve as a practice day.

Revit building design software is specifically built for Building Information Modeling (BIM). This product includes features for architectural design, mechanical/electrical/piping (MEP), structural engineering, and construction. This 32-hour class will introduce experienced Foreman, Apprentices, and Detailers to the use of this software. Proficient use of a computer is required to take this course. You will create a model, add components to it, set up levels and grids, annotate and detail sheets, and create HVAC, hydronic, plumbing, lighting and power systems.

This is a four-day class, January 9, 10, 16 and 17, 2024, from 4:30 – 8:30 p.m. in the Architectural Shop Room 130.

In this 16-hour class, you will gain some advanced skills in soldering galvanized iron, stainless steel and copper. Lab time will be spent soldering in horizontal, angled and vertical positions. Materials and equipment used will reflect both shop and field conditions.

ESTIMATING and PROJECT MANAGEMENT CLASS

ESTIMATING and PROJECT MANAGEMENT CLASS 32-Hour Class will be held on eight Mondays beginning October 2, 2023 – November 20, 2023 Estimating – This class is designed as an introduction to estimating HVAC type work. Course content will include instruction on preparing estimates, job “takeoff” accuracy, estimating labor and material costs, productivity variables, labor factors for different building types overhead and markup, etc. Project Management – This class is designed to be an introduction to developing basic project management skills. Becoming a successful project manager takes plenty of on-the-job experience. Course content includes management and communications, construction documents, controlling costs, scheduling, productivity, legal considerations, budget estimating, project completion, etc. There is room for more members to join this class. TABB Supervisor Prep Class

TABB Supervisor Prep Class Prerequisites: 

1. Be a current dues paying member of Local 10. 

2. Be employed by a contractor signatory to a collective bargaining agreement that provides for contributions directly to NEMIC, and the employer shall be current with all financial obligations under that collective bargaining agreement. 

3. Meet all other ICB requirements and conditions of a supervisor, as reflected on the ICB supervisor application form. 

In addition to the eligibility requirements in Section 3.2 of this manual, the TABB Supervisor must meet one of the following criteria: 

 • Hold a college/university degree in engineering with at least one year of experience in HVAC installation or design work; 

• Hold a two-year associates degree in HVAC with at least three years of experience in HVAC installation or design work; 

• Hold an ICB-certified TABB Technician certification with five or more years of experience in HVAC installation or design work (which may include apprenticeship), at least one of which must include testing, adjusting, and balancing (TAB) work; or 

 • Have at least three years’ experience in TAB work and is recommended in writing for the exam by the applicant’s employer. 

The applicant's employer must be an ICB-certified Contractor or be eligible to be an ICB-certified Contractor except only for the requirements to employ an ICB-certified Technician and/or an ICB-certified Supervisor. 

Class Dates: 2/13/24, 2/15/24, 2/20/24, 2/22/24 at 4:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. 

Test Date: Thursday, March 7, 2024 at 8 a.m.

Journey Level TAB Class

-IMPORTANT CLASS INFORMATION- TO: All Interested Journeypersons FROM: Sheet Metal Workers Local 10 Training Center SUBJECT: Testing, Adjusting, and Balancing Air Systems Testing, Adjusting, and Balancing Air Systems (TAB) class will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays beginning September 6, 2023 through March 27, 2024 from 4:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. excluding holidays. Joe Bremer and Tom Sauka will be the instructors for this class, which will be held in Room 116 at the Training Center. A current dues receipt must be presented on the first day of class. • The first 72 hours of TAB is designed to introduce the basics of TAB work to an individual, with lots of hands-on applications. You will learn how to set up and use flow hoods, manometers, and many other testing instruments used daily by TAB technicians. In addition, you will learn how to test and balance various types of mechanical equipment along with their related duct systems. This is an excellent class for people who want to learn how to do TAB work, as well as for those people currently doing it. • The next 56 hours of TAB is designed to teach advanced TAB balancing skills and procedures to technicians with some balancing experience. • Hydronics (the water side of TAB) balancing skills and procedures will also be taught (40 hours). • There will also be time spent to prepare to take the ITI Certified TAB Technician written exams for air and hydronics. The exams will be scheduled for a date after the conclusion of this class. TO: All Interested Journeypersons FROM: Sheet Metal Workers Local 10 Training Center SUBJECT: Servicing Environmental Systems Servicing Environmental Systems (SES) Class will be held on most Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning September 7, 2023 through May 21, 2024 from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Dave Fairbanks and Jesse Heien will be the instructors for this class in Room 106 at the Training Center. Please note that a mandatory dues receipt must be provided on the first day of class by each attendee. • SES will focus on the core knowledge required for servicing HVAC systems. We’ll cover the basics of refrigeration systems, systems design, pressure/temperature relationships, electricity fundamentals, and controls. • We will then go more in-depth in all the fundamental areas of HVAC service, such as gas heating, air conditioning, and air distribution. Plenty of time will be spent on wiring diagrams, troubleshooting, and hands-on work. • We will then focus exclusively on commercial hands-on service. Lab time will be spent on some of the newer components and systems that are out there today. This 28-hour class will introduce experienced Foreman, Apprentices, and Detailers to the use of this software.  Prerequisite to taking this advanced class: some experience in or Beginning Revit BIM Software Class, proficient use of a computer.

You will be learning Revit family creation, Plot Sheet set-up, using Design Options, Advanced Scheduling, Project Phasing, Inserting point clouds into Revit model, Inserting Point clouds into Navisworks, Clouding and revising sheets, Roof opening plans with Trimble points and general BIM coordination knowledge.

The students will learn how to mark-up a PDF using the pen, highlighter, callouts, etc. inside Bluebeam. 

They will learn visual searches, counts and use of the common measurement tools. 

The students will also learn how to customize documents using the cut content feature.
