SUBJECT:           Servicing Environmental Systems

Servicing Environmental Systems (SES) Class will be held on most Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning September 3, 2026 through April 29, 2027 from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m.  Xavier Emerson & Jesse Heien will be the instructors for this class in Room B100 at the Training Center. Please note that a mandatory dues receipt must be provided on the first day of class by each attendee along with a check or cash deposit that will be returned upon completion of the class and with at least 70% attendance of the class. 

·        SES will focus on the core knowledge required for servicing HVAC systems.  We’ll cover the basics of refrigeration systems, systems design, pressure/temperature relationships, electricity fundamentals, and controls.

·       We will then go more in-depth in all the fundamental areas of HVAC service, such as gas heating, air conditioning, and air distribution.  Plenty of time will be spent on wiring diagrams, troubleshooting, and hands-on work. 

·       We will then focus exclusively on commercial hands-on service.  Lab time will be spent on some of the newer components and systems that are out there today.

This 16-hour class will focus on the proper method to calculate heat loss for a residential home using a Manual J workbook and spreadsheet.  Information from the spreadsheet will be used to calculate the heat loss for each room, and the entire house.  Duct design will incorporate information from the heat loss spreadsheet to design a duct system to distribute the correct amount of air to each room to satisfy the load.  NOTE: This class qualifies for NATE Continuing Education Hours.

 

We have scheduled a Load Calculation and Duct Design class to run four Wednesday evenings on 7/1, 7/8, 7/15 & 7/22 at the Training Center, Room 118, from 4:30 - 8:30 PM with Mario Salute. A current dues receipt is mandatory to attend class. WARM AIR focus is on the first 2 nights of class; VENTILATION focus is on the last two nights of class.

REFRIGERATION CODE REVIEW

 

REFRIGERATION CODE REVIEW

 Monday & Wednesdays, April 6, 8, 13 & 15

4:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

This is a 16-hour class that is designed to provide you with in-depth knowledge of the refrigeration portion of the International Mechanical Code. This chapter in the code covers the design, installation, and construction of refrigeration systems that vaporize and liquefy a fluid during the refrigeration cycle.

 

Location: Metro Area JATC, 3554 White Bear Ave N – Room 124, White Bear Lake, MN 55110

 

·        Class size is limited to 10 students. There are many on the wait list for this class, so we need to know that you are indeed committed to show up and attend by CONFIRMING YOUR PLACE in this class with a deposit of $100.  Please mail a $100 deposit ASAP in March 2026 to Metro JATC, 3554 WHITE BEAR AVE N, WHITE BEAR LAKE MN 55110. Checks preferred; cash accepted if in an envelope with your name and class name on it.  If you drop off after school hours, please leave in the silver drop box attached to the brick wall at the main entrance (with your name on the check).  Thank you.

 

In order to have your deposit returned you must attend 75% of the Refrigeration Code Review class.   

 

A current Dues Receipt is mandatory to attend this class.
